Older Babies: 6 to 12 Months

Our 6-month old baby Alice is doing pretty well with sleep at home but seems to have trouble settling herself for naps at day care. We’ve read that she should have a “security object.” We’ve offered her several of the animal blankets that every other baby seems to like, but so far she doesn’t seem interested. Does it really make a difference? We want her to feel secure. What else can we do?
Why does my baby cry when I leave him with his sitter? He's fine when I return, but it's breaking my heart . . .
Our baby isn't really interested in the food we're offering him. Does that mean he's not ready yet?
What is the best time to start adding foods to our baby’s diet? When I offer him a little food from a spoon, he only takes a bite or two, and then turns his head away. . .
I'm worried that my baby doesn't like me anymore now that I'm back at work. The first few weeks she was happy to see me when I got home. But, now it seems like she doesn't care if I am home or not. I feel left out.
We have a mom/baby group that has been getting together since our babies were born (they’re 8-9 months old now) We talk about sleep all the time—and we don't agree . .
We're taking our almost 5 month old to the East Coast to meet her relatives. How can we plan for this? . .
I am a daycare provider. How can I help babies (and their mothers) to continue breastfeeding and still be able to give them what they need?
It seems like every time we turn around we find something moe to worry about. It's hard to sort out all the information we are getting . . .
How much is it OK to cuddle a baby? Henry is eight months old and he is very affectionate. I love to hold him. Some people have called him a "lap baby" and say that I shouldn't hold him so much and that he’s going to get spoiled…
We have a baby playgroup that meets once a week. In the past couple of months some of the babies have had colds. It’s uncomfortable to tell other parents…
How can you tell if a baby is happy? Our baby Josh is six months old. He seems quite alert and intelligent. Sometimes I worry that he doesn't seem as happy as other babies. He often has a very serious expression on his face…
I know that I’m supposed to be reading to my baby every night, but instead of it being a pleasant bedtime ritual, it feels like a chore. My baby seems alert and bright but she doesn’t think that books are very interesting. I’ve tried pictures, board books…
Our baby Grace is 6 months old. Until now she has been mostly breast fed, with a bottle or two of formula everyday. She's always been on the thin side, although she's growing. She likes nursing and the bottle. My pediatrician said to start her on solid foods but she resists everything I offer. I’ve tried cereal, fruit…
Our ten month old is pulling himself up to standing and taking a few steps holding on. We're thrilled to see him advancing so well, but we're worried because he has never learned to crawl. A friend told us that if a child doesn't learn to crawl he may have trouble learning to read later on. Is this true? Is there something we should do?
Our baby Kate has been eating solid foods for two months now (she's seven months old) and she loves to eat. Almost every day she goes through several jars of baby food and at least a half cup of cereal. And that’s on top of 24 ounces of formula a day. She's on the 90th percentile for height and weight and we feel like…
We live in a pretty small house and at this point our baby is sleeping in a bedroom that we use as an office. We can't change that for now, so we plan to keep things as childproofed as we can. My mom suggested that we get a playpen, but my friends tell me that is a really bad idea. (Actually, they act as if I’m contemplating child abuse). But my mom says there will be times when I can't watch the baby every minute and I don't want to have to put him in his crib just so that I can go to the bathroom. What do you think?
