I have been helping parents to understand, accept and manage their children's behavior for over thirty years.  My approach is to support your child’s strengths and to help you find the way to be the parent you want to be.

Over the years I have worked in many settings. I was trained at UC San Francisco where I became one of the first Pediatric Nurse Practitioners in the Bay Area.  Now I have a busy private practice,  lead parent groups, consult with schools,  and train other professionals-teachers, social workers, pediatricians and nurse practitioners-- in audiences large and small. I’ve written four books for parents and write monthly columns for Parents’ Press, a publication for parents in the Bay Area. I’ve been a radio columnist and a media commentator. Overall I am what many call a "Parent Coach" and others call a lifeline to sanity!

What do children need to thrive?  Safety, loving care and parents who understand and accept them for who they are.  What do parents need?  The confidence to provide their children with the love and limits they need to grow into successful adults. Parents who come to me leave with that confidence.

I started my private practice after I became a parent myself. I saw that my own training wasn’t enough.  I needed support, advice, and at times, professional guidance. I learned how much it helped when I found the best, most supportive and knowledgeable people to help me.  I realized that all parents need someone who will listen well, ask them the right questions, and help them find solutions and strategies.

From these needs I built my family consultation practice, helping parents with what I call “Solutions for Everyday Life With Children”.

Parents know that when they come to consult with me about any issue related to their child and family that they will be talking to someone who understands them and will support them with the kind of insight that comes from years of experience and training.
